Founded in 1974, family-run Britannia Lanes began in the industry offering removals and conventional containerised storage with depots across the Southwest. 2001 saw the first phase of self storage installed at the Truro site. Today, self storage is an integral part of the business totalling over 86,000 sq. ft net lettable space over three facilities. The company is now focusing on satellite, remotely managed sites with third-generation directors looking to drive the company’s growth.

The Falmouth project involved repurposing a ready-built unit and working around the gantry crane removal. The entire building needed recladding, as well as the installation of a new viewing panel and roller doors. Another requirement was the addition of digital access control to enable remote site management.
Janus provided a 2-tier mezzanine floor, including a 1-hour fire rating in way of suspended ceilings and column casings along with a fascia. The Janus team also supplied a 1-hour fire rated enclosure and staircase, and a galvanised external staircase, throughout the facility. Units which include the Nokē Smart Entry System were fitted to the ground and first floors.
Janus prepared the second phase with a suspended ceiling ready to fit the phase 2 self storage units. The next phase will include the addition of 92 units and 6,580 sq. ft net lettable space.
Britannia Lanes was able to draw on Janus’s strong industry knowledge to develop their desired facility. The Nokē Smart Entry System integration was a smooth process which is of huge importance to a remotely managed site.
