Founded in 2017 in Lisbon by two friends from the film industry, KUBOO was the first of the new-generation operators in Portugal that became a member of FEDESSA and took the self storage industry by surprise through its down to earth innovations, design and architecture, in addition to a service that you would get only in the best of hotels.

KUBOO won the Best European Self-Storage Award in 2022 and the company now operates three large facilities, with two more in the pipeline.

The challenge:

KUBOO’s offering includes a large range of units from 1 sqm to 30 sqm, and the biggest challenge from the outset was to develop the original 3-floor mezzanine to incorporate a mix of sizes across all three floors. In addition, the COVID pandemic hit during the installation process of the mezzanine and partitioning systems which forced both KUBOO and the Janus team to manage the build during this unprecedented event.

The Solution:

KUBOO and Janus had already partnered on a separate warehouse project and the great relationship with Janus’ Sales Director Martyn Dickinson was key to setting up the collaboration for this venture. Janus’ design team worked closely with KUBOO to accommodate the desired requirements for the mezzanine and partitions across three floors initially - this allowed them to optimise the building’s layout and incorporate the diversified offering of unit sizes.

KUBOO SELF-STORAGE aims to open more facilities across Portugal in the coming years with the continued support from Janus.
