Group Production Director

Responsible for all manufacturing, logistics and purchasing for the International Group (Europe, Asia and Australia), ensuring strategic business outcomes are achieved across all entities. This role oversees all aspects of performance including reporting, systems excellence and continuous improvement, ensuring adherence to legal and company standards.

Responsibilities and duties for the role will include:

  • Coordinating manufacturing strategy and synergy across the three plants/business units
  • Setting up and managing the new manufacturing footprint (either through acquisition or new sites)
  • Leading on R&D and defined special projects sponsored by the Leadership team/board
  • Overseeing the management of factories across the group, in terms of ensuring that production capacity is effectively utilised, appropriately resourced, and that efficiency and quality are maintained throughout the process
  • Ensuring that the logistics, stock control and purchasing functions are all working in tandem and servicing the needs of the business entities effectively
  • Acting as a Microsoft Dynamics Navision specialist and super-user on site, overseeing production planning, contributing to future development with expert knowledge, and troubleshooting where required
  • Ensuring effective communications with the Sales and Operations teams, providing timely and accurate updates and advice on the status of Production and Logistics
  • Preparing reports for monthly management meetings, quarterly reviews, and at any other time reporting is required
  • Analysing Production efficiencies and capacity, and record data at an individual and company level
  • Preparing Production reports and direct labour cost reports
  • Overseeing and managing resourcing according to annual budget and flexible production demands, and provide regular reports on all resourcing matters, including temps, to the HR Director
  • In conjunction with the Finance department, providing analysis of maintenance time, machine output balance analysis, and time and motion studies
  • Signing off on stock values as at the month end and ensure all queries and any relevant details are communicated to the Finance team
  • Ensuring all system protocols and processes are maintained in a timely and accurate manner. To be the owner of all data as recorded in the Manufacturing, Warehousing and Inventory modules in NAV and ensure effective interface with other departments

This role has line management responsibilities, including:

  • Acting as an outstanding role model to all colleagues, with particular focus on the company values
  • Managing the performance and wellbeing of direct reports
  • Arranging regular 121s
  • Conducting annual appraisals
  • Setting clear objectives that serve to develop employees, achieve excellent quality standards and meet overarching organizational goals
  • Managing absence:
  • Logging absence in ADP
  • Conducting return to work interviews where sick leave has occurred
  • Actioning any relevant absence-related policies
  • Where necessary, chairing disciplinary, grievance or appeal hearings (with HR support)
  • Coordinating cross-departmental inductions for new starters within your team
  • Recruiting, onboarding and arranging training for employees alongside the HR department and in line with HR processes

  • Experience working in a modern manufacturing plant, and a strong technical understanding of production processes
  • Experience of working closely with (and ideally overseeing) multiple, international teams
  • Good analytical skills using modern manufacturing techniques
  • Excellent understanding of the warehousing, manufacturing and inventory modules of ERP systems (NAV) and able to perform as a super-user
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications
  • Comfortable and confident reporting to group business leaders, including meeting deadlines and making recommendations
  • Highly organised with great attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work under pressure
