Go Store Self Storage has taken traditional self storage to the next level by using automation and implementing ESG initiatives to appeal to a broader range of tenants.

Go Store Self Storage was founded by Rory Windham and Norman Galbraith after the sale of their previous business 1st Storage Centres to the Big Yellow Group. Both have been actively involved in the sector and with the SSA UK for many years. Norman was Chairman of the Association in the early 2000’s whilst operating his first self storage company Aardvark Self Storage and Rory was more recently Treasurer of the SSA UK whilst running 1st Storage.

Go Store’s first branch opened in York in 2019 as the first company in the UK to adopt the Nokē Smart Entry in a new-build facility. Go Store York was runner up for the European independent facility of the year in 2021. The Kettering store was added to the company’s portfolio at the start of 2022 with a new store in Stoke-on-Trent in the pipeline.

The challenge:

Following the success of the company’s 4th generation purpose-built store in York, the Go Store team wanted to develop a similar facility in Kettering. The challenges the team faced included the ongoing Covid pandemic, shortages of materials and labour, increasing costs and supply chain issues.

The Solution:

Go Store Self Storage selected Janus as they are the market leader and therefore well versed in preparing and managing fit-outs whilst juggling various individual suppliers to ensure each area of the project runs smoothly. Janus also offered the Nokē Smart Entry System which enabled the Go Store team to take their business one step further.

Go Store was very fortunate to be one of the first operators to adopt Nokē into their business model and their facilities are run using the latest technology, including a very slick app to operate access control.

The Go Store team was proud to complete the build and open the site within 9 months of breaking ground, which was in no small part due to the project management offered by Janus for the fit-out element of the development.
